Message From the Pastor

What is the purpose of the church?

Acts 2:42… And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Here we see four of the purposes of the church (there are more than four) – Teaching of doctrine, Fellowship, Breaking of bread, and prayer.

We accomplish the first purpose, teaching of doctrine, through the ministry of the Word in our worship services, through the various group ministries (Men’s Ministry and Women’s Ministry…), and through our Sunday School program.  Please consider this your invitation to get involved with Sunday School!  We have outstanding teachers and multiple opportunities.  We have an adult class at 8:15 am.  There is a Women’s class that starts at 9:30 am.  Also, we have the Berean Fellowship and Bible Study meeting in the office building at 9:30 am as well as the Walk the Talk class in the main building.  Both the Berean Bible study and the Walk the Talk classes are open to singles and couples.

We love our Fellowship times! Besides the Coffee and Donut times before and after the worship services, we have church-wide Fellowships nearly every month!  Last month we were blessed with the Valentine’s Day Banquet Prime Rib dinner!!!! Oh my!  This month is our 17th annual Chili Cook-Off!  Contestants will have their chili entries ready for the judges on Monday, March 18th at 6 pm!  Please bring crackers, cornbread, and an appetite as we crown a 2024 Champion!

Though Prime Rib and Chili certainly count as Breaking of bread, what the Scripture is alluding to is the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.  Our church observes the Lord’s Supper on the 1st Sunday of every month.  In addition to the Lord’s Supper, we celebrate the ordinance of Baptism as often as we can!  We have been blessed with quite a few baptisms so far this year!  Thank you, Lord!

Our Wednesday evening service is the official “prayer” service for the church.  After a time of worship and strong Bible teaching by David Tate, we gather in small groups to pray.  My pastor always said that you can measure the strength of a church by the attendance at prayer meetings.  I believe that.  We also have a church prayer chain.  If you’re interested in being on the prayer chain contact Cheryl Harrison at .

Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8 give us another purpose of the church.  Share the gospel!  We’re gearing up of our annual VBS, and we have work going on in Puerto Rico and Senegal.  We have a community Easter outreach.  All these and more are there for us to reach the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Also, ministry to orphans, widows, and prisoners should be included in the purposes of the church.

Pray with me that we take full advantage of all these opportunities to realize the full purpose of the church!

    God bless, Pastor Rob
