Message From the Pastor - August 2010

We're a couple of weeks into the "Everybody Bible Study." This year we are studying the "Seven Words of Worship" by Mike Harland and Stan Moser.   I've found myself very challenged by the content of the lessons in just the first two weeks.

Worship is near to all our hearts, and more importantly, is near to the Father's heart. Experiencing authentic, biblical worship is something we all should long for and expect each time we come to church.

Our church is unique in our approach to worship. Our worship style varies from week to week. We've been approaching worship in this manner for several years. I believe that this approach has served us well. Could it be, however, that God has a higher calling for our church's worship?

It's been nearly a year since the choir director/worship leader/minister of music position was vacated and we tasked our personnel committee with the job of leading us towards someone new filling that/those role(s). Have you been praying for them? I confess that the business of ministry has allowed my prayers for the committee to slip. That is going to change! Worship is too important! Let's be faithful in praying that the members of the committee be led by the Holy Spirit as they go about their task.

In the meantime, we are blessed with a variety of musical entities that lead in our worship services. They, too, need our prayers. Let's pray that each Sunday's worship is approached as a holy encounter with the Living God. Psalm 22:3 says, "You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel."

This weekend various national merchandisers are having "Christmas in July" sales. Though Christmas is six months away, it isn't to early for us to begin thinking about the Christmas season.   I believe the Lord would have us offer a significant musical effort to aid us in worship this Christmas season. For that reason I have put a sign-up list on the bulletin board near my office door for those interested in participating in an holiday choir. Once we determine the participation level, we can then go about choosing what we are going to present as our musical offering. Please consider making a commitment to the choir this holiday season.

I can't write an article for the newsletter in August without mentioning missions. Our youth left this morning for North Carolina to work among native Americans.   What a blessing to see two FBC Seabrook vans leave the church full of youth for a mission trip!!!! The South Texas team is nearly recovered and should be ready to participate in the San Leon and El Jardin Bible clubs to be held Aug 2-6. God's Word is being preached from this church in Jerusalem (local), Judea (South Texas), Samaria (North Carolina) and to the ends of the earth (Senegal.) That is the Lord's command and that was our vision. Praise God for the realization of a vision!

God bless,
Pastor Rob
